siameseshepherdsmallVANCOUVER, NOVEMBER 29/2011 - With Christmas and the Holidays just around the corner, The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) is urging people to find out if the company they work for has a Matching Gift Program that can double their donation to  help animals.

"Sometimes, a person will have worked for a company for a number of years without realizing that their employer will match their kindness and generosity, dollar for dollar, meaning we can help even more animals at risk," explains, Al Hickey, HSC Western Regional Director.

To make it easier for people to check, The Humane Society of Canada, has a directory of companies in Canada and the United States which can be found here. Canadians living and working in the United States, along with Canadian employed by American companies here in Canada can also donate through a matching gift program.

The animal charity is also asking people to encourage their employer to set up a Matching Gift Program if they don't already have one, and can give them tips and guidelines on how to do this.  If a person needs help with finding their company, they can contact The Humane Society of Canada toll free by calling 1-800-641-KIND (5463) or writing to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
